Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about MorrowMark.

Photos & Privacy

Are my photos public or private by default?

Private by default. When you upload photos, they are only visible to you in the dashboard until you explicitly choose to make them public. You can change this in Family Site → Photo Privacyby toggling “New photos default to public” — which makes every new upload immediately visible on your public family site.

How do I make a photo public or private?

Click any photo in the Media Vaultto open the detail panel. You’ll see a Publictoggle — flip it on to make the photo visible on your family site, or off to hide it. The change saves instantly.

Can I make all my photos public or private at once?

Yes. In the Media Vault, click the Visibilitybutton in the header. You’ll see options to “Make all public” or “Make all private.” If you have an album selected, the action is scoped to just that album. A confirmation dialog shows the exact count of photos that will be affected.

What is “Pause photo visibility”?

It’s a kill switch that temporarily hides allphotos from your public site without changing any individual photo’s public/private setting. Think of it as vacation mode — flip it on when you’re reorganizing, flip it off when you’re ready. Your photos are always safe; they reappear exactly as they were.

Can visitors tell that private photos exist?

No. Private photos are completely invisible on public pages. There is no placeholder, no count, and no indication that hidden photos exist. Visitors only see what you choose to share.

What are “Memories” on photos?

Every photo has an optional Memoryfield where you can write the story behind the image — what was happening, who was there, why it matters. These notes become part of your family’s photo journal: a living narrative attached to your visual history. You don’t have to fill it in for every photo, but even a few notes per album create something powerful over time.

Where are my photos stored?

Your photos are stored securely in AWS S3 (Amazon’s cloud storage service), organized by family and year. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Your photos are never shared with third parties, used for advertising, or used to train AI models.

Can I connect my phone to auto-upload photos?

Not yet, but this is on our roadmap. The vision: connect your phone and photos flow into your MorrowMark account automatically — just like iCloud or Google Photos. Your privacy default setting will control whether auto-uploaded photos are immediately public or stay private until you review them.

Will MorrowMark connect to social media?

We’re building connectors to push and pull photos from platforms like Instagram and Facebook. The goal is synergy — your MorrowMark vault becomes the single source of truth for your family’s visual history, with social media as one of many inputs and outputs.

The Vault & Messages

What is the Vault?

The Vault is where you capture who you are— your stories, values, humor, advice, writing style, and specific messages for specific people. The more you put in, the more authentically MorrowMark can generate messages in your voice.

How does the AI generate messages?

When a milestone arrives (birthday, graduation, wedding), MorrowMark pulls relevant entries from your Vault — prioritizing entries targeted to that specific person or occasion — and generates a message that sounds like you. The AI draws from your stories, your humor, your way of expressing love. It’s not generic; it’s you.

Can I review messages before they’re sent?

Yes. Messages are scheduled in advance (we scan 14 days ahead), and your trustee can review, edit, or cancel any message before it’s delivered. Nothing goes out without the trustee’s awareness.

What is a Trustee?

A Trustee is the person you designate to manage your MorrowMark account after you’re gone. They can add new recipients (like grandchildren born after you), update milestones, review messages, and manage the vault. You also designate a backup trustee in case the primary trustee is unable to serve. This is designed to align with legal trust documents and estate planning.

How long do messages keep going?

As long as the account is active and a trustee is managing it. MorrowMark is built for perpetuity — the goal is that your grandchildren, and their children, still hear from you on the moments that matter.

Family Sites

What is a Family Site?

Every MorrowMark family can create a public website that showcases your family tree, member profiles, and photo galleries. Think of it as your family’s corner of the internet — a living, evolving site that tells your family’s story through photos, bios, and albums.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. MorrowMark supports custom domains for both family sites (e.g. gutierrezrose.com) and individual member pages (e.g. brettadamrose.com). Custom domains are available on paid plans. Contact support to configure your domain.

Do family members get their own pages?

Yes. Each family member you add to the site gets their own profile page with a bio, avatar, and a gallery of photos they’re tagged in. Each member can even have their own custom domain that routes directly to their page.

Account & Billing

Is MorrowMark free?

Yes, the Starter plan is free forever. It includes up to 25 vault entries, 3 recipients, and email delivery for birthday messages. Paid plans unlock unlimited vault entries, unlimited recipients, voice messages, custom domains, and more.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

If you or your trustee closes the account, we retain all data for 90 days to allow recovery. After 90 days, data is permanently deleted. Audit logs are retained for 7 years for legal compliance. You can export your vault entries, messages, and photos at any time before closure.

Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export your vault entries, message history, recipient information, and photos at any time. Your data belongs to you — we make it easy to take it with you.

Security & Privacy

Is my Vault content used to train AI?

No. Your vault entries are sent to Anthropic (Claude) solely to generate your personalized messages. Anthropic does not use customer inputs for model training. Your stories, your values, your voice — they stay yours.

Who can see my photos and vault entries?

Only you and your designated trustee(s) can access the dashboard, vault, and private photos. Public photos are visible to anyone who visits your family site. Row-level security policies in our database ensure that each family can only access their own data — there is no admin backdoor.

How is my data protected?

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Authentication uses industry-standard password hashing. Photos are stored in AWS S3 with access controls. Every admin action is logged to an audit trail for full transparency and legal defensibility.
